People for a Better Athens announces the inaugural 5K Run for a Better Athens to be held on Saturday, June 9th. The run begins at 8:30 am from the Jittery Joe’s Roaster at 780 E. Broad Street, and family-friendly events will take place throughout the morning. The run course winds through the North Oconee Greenway and Heritage Trail, giving participants an intimate look at the unique natural beauty downtown Athens offers. After the run, participants will be treated to food from the Last Resort Grill, Mama’s Boy, Square One Fish Company, and music by Kiss your Darlin’.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Beau Harvey Memorial House that the Athens Chapter of Habitat for Humanity will construct.

Route designer John Tankard says “people participating in the Run for a Better Athens will be able to take in the beauty of the natural treasure downtown Athens is fortunate to have, the Oconee River.”
