Athens can do better with development
By: Russell Edwards
This Thanksgiving, I give thanks for all the great qualities that make Athens the home we cherish. There’s Georgia football: I went to the Kentucky game this year and barked like a dawg. It brought back memories of my father who always got riled up when a Georgia player hit an open seam. There’s our wonderful University that attracts and inspires some of the world’s preeminent scholars in too many fields to list here. There’s our natural resources, like the beautifully ancient Oconee River that winds through town. There’s our incredibly unique culture that boasts an unrivaled music scene, growing film scene, and eclectic art scene. There’s our local businesses that serve as the bedrock of downtown’s unique attractiveness for tourists from all over the world. There’s our adored cuisine, punctuated by celebrity chefs and locally grown food.
