I live across the street from the proposed site. Although i think there should be a grocery store in downtown Athens, I do not think that having a Walmart would be the solution–too much traffic.
Has anyone looked into using billboards to raise community awareness of the Selig development? Specifically, the billboard on the bend of Oconee next to the Flagpole buildng/proposed development site. Might be a good place to spread the word to Athenians.
Also that nice digital billboard that is on the Macon Highway near Epps Bridge. Tons of people see that one daily I bet.

I told her WalMart would kill their East Side4 store and leave another urban dead zone. She said that she thought they'd just close the new one if things were slow (?). Then, came the capper: "We'll just have to pray about it." Really? Just have to pray about it?"… THAT IS TOTALLY OUTRAGEOUS!!! WE ARE SUPPOSED TO PRAY??!! I will not be in Athens until later this month, but I plan on letting nancy & commissioners know exactly how i feel about a 4th walmart warehouse in historic OLD Athens town.
The mayor told a crowd full of people at Ted's Most Best that she couldn't do anything about it but when iit was put to her as "if you were against it you could stop it" she replied with "yes but I'm not against it."
I think it's disingenuous for the mayor and comissioners to put this all on Selig. They do have the power to alter the course of events and get us something better for that spot.
